We have all been managing this hazard for a while now which is when complacency starts to creep in. It is fair to say that as far as the three elements of safety management are concerned (workplace, tools and people) all efforts have been made. The problem that starts to arise after time is that without the presence of the consequence being visible to your teams, the perception arises that the risk has reduced. The public have to wear masks in supermarkets yet the staff walking the floor don’t seem to.
Implementing the physical controls and providing the tools to manage Covid-19 is not enough. Your staff have to do what is required, relentlessly. Otherwise all of your investment is compromised. Like any safety management system, it is only effective if all three elements are right. Being Covid secure is now about your team and how they behave and if you’re in charge, that is your responsibility.
